Tasting Notes

Inky red in colour with purple hues at the rim. Dense blackberry and plum fruits dominate the nose with five spice, smoke and dark chocolate showing through. A rich and generous palate showcases all the quintessential traits of Barossa Shiraz. Ripe black plum, black pepper and liquorice in abundance, supported by integrated and complex oak characters. The wine is plush and mouth filling, with long savoury tannins adding structure to the palate. This wine will reward cellaring but can also be enjoyed now for it’s vibrant fruit expression.

Winemaking

Harvested during the cool of night and at optimal flavour, tannin and sugar levels for premium Barossa Shiraz. The grapes were then destemmed and fermented in 10 tonne static fermenters and pumped over twice daily. After 10 days on skins the wine was pressed off into stainless steel tanks to complete malolactic fermentation. Once both primary and secondary fermentation was complete, the wine was filled to oak of which 20% was new to mature for 22 month prior to bottling.

Wine Critic Reviews

94 Points - Wine Orbit

It's richly fruited and fragrant on the nose with dark berry, mixed spice, floral, and toasted hazelnut aromas. The palate is equally attractive with succulent fruit intensity and spicy nuances, superbly framed by finely infused tannins. Generous and flavoursome with a lengthy, delicious
finish. At its best: now to 2036.

94 Points - Wine Front

The wines from the stupendous 2021 vintage, from a number of regions, of which the Barossa must surely be to the fore, continue to thrill. If your cellar is not full of them, hesitate no longer. This cracking Shiraz had twenty-two months in oak, one-fifth of which was new.

An inky dense maroon hue, this is intense, powerful, rich and full of those Barossa-y flavours we love – chocolate, leather, blackcurrants, animal skins, dark plums, coffee grinds, mocha and licorice. A juicy style which is supple and sleek, with fine tannins and serious length, this is delicious now but has considerable improvement in it and will drink beautifully for at least ten to fifteen years.

Vintage Report

The 2021 growing season had all the hallmarks of a classic vintage. Consistent warm temperatures without hot days produced perfect conditions for our red varieties to ripen. This along with good winter rains and a dry harvest period resulted in wines with great depth of varietal flavours, excellent tannin structure and colour along with a long and balanced finish. Reds from 2021 will age well due to their intense concentration and power.
